ATLANTA - Teresa Gould, the Deputy Director of Athletics, Chief of Staff at California, is the recipient of the 2013 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Administrator of the Year Award, the WBCA office announced today. The WBCA Administrator of the Year Award is presented annually to an administrator, athletic director, associate or assistant athletic director, or senior woman administrator who has excelled at encouraging the growth and quality of women's basketball programs and women's athletic programs overall. The candidate also must have served as a professional role model for student-athletes. "Congratulations to Teresa," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "I believe it is extra special to have people within the institution, in addition to the coaches and players, who are passionate about the game. Having strong relationships on campus with important people such as Teresa is crucial for any coach trying to run a successful program. Teresa couldn't be a better role model for other administrators." "No one is more deserving of a national honor than Teresa Gould," California head women's basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb said. "Teresa is a visionary in athletic administration, and her philosophical belief in the importance of Women's Basketball is put into action every single day on the job. From creating a Task Force to support and promote our program year round, to taking the time to mentor our players and staff, Teresa has been so influential in helping Cal Basketball to succeed. I am very lucky to have her as a colleague, mentor and friend." Gould, in her 12th year at Cal, oversees the budgetary and operational needs of various intercollegiate varsity teams, including the women's basketball program. She also oversees several administrative units and the university's multimedia agreement with IMG. Gould is the Pac-12 Conference's representative on the NCAA Women's Basketball Issues Committee and serves as the campus liaison to the Pac-12 Networks and Pac-12 Enterprises. Additionally, she speaks to the California women's basketball supporters group and created the "Women's Basketball Task Force" committee that meets regularly to keep the women's basketball program relevant in the community, in the classroom and on the court via the most efficient, team-friendly and fan-friendly ways.
Prior to working at Cal, Gould worked as the associate commissioner of the West Coast Conference. Gould served as a member of the NCAA Division I Management Council for two years while working for the WCC. She worked as conference relations coordinator for ESPN Regional Television in Charlotte, N.C. from 1992-94.
