BERKELEY - California head women's basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb has been selected by the USA Basketball Board of Directors as a member of the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee for the 2013-16 quadrennium.
"It's such an honor to be chosen to be a part of the Women's Junior National Team Committee for the next quadrennium," Gottlieb said. "The opportunity to serve USA Basketball in this capacity is humbling, and it's with a spirit of great responsibility that I approach this role. I'm very much looking forward to working with the other committee members in helping to select players and coaches to wear the red, white and blue."
The 2013-16 Women's Junior National Team Committee is chaired by Jim Foster (head coach, the Ohio State University) and includes NCAA appointees Melanie Balcomb (head coach, Vanderbilt University), Lindsay Gottlieb (head coach, University of California) and Joi Williams (head coach, UCF), as well as athlete representative Kara Lawson, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist who has been a part of nine USA Basketball teams.
The Women's Junior National Team committees will select coaches and athletes for USA Basketball's college-aged competitions, which include the 2013 and 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships, the 2014 and 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championships, the 2013 and 2015 World University Games and the 2015 Pan American Games.
"We are fortunate to have terrific representatives for each of these committees," said USA Basketball Executive Director/CEO Jim Tooley. "These are the committees that identify our coaches and players for our national teams, and we put together another collection of talented and dedicated committee members to help us continue to win gold medals."
USA teams are the current men's and women's champions in the Olympics, men's and women's FIBA World Championships; women's FIBA U19 World Champions; men's and women's FIBA U17 World Champions; and the men's and women's U18 and U16 FIBA Americas champions; as well as winners of the women's FIBA 3X3 World Championship and 3x3 U18 World Championship.
