COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Following the loss to No. 7 Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon, California head coach Joanne Boyle was available for interviews. What follows are her quotes.
"It's just a great environment to come down and play in. I was happy with my team's energy and how they came out and played. It's just disappointing that offensively we didn't take care of the ball better and understand what we were looking for a little bit."
On Cal's impressive start to the second half:
"We pressured a little bit more. We pressed a little bit. We just had some energy and got some tips and deflections and offensive rebounded a little bit. We got to push in transition and get some easier baskets that we weren't necessarily getting early on."
On Cal's overall offensive effort:
"We don't go to pace offensively like we do defensively so we kind of walk into our screens. We don't set things up. Where we're not disciplined is against a team like [A&M], where we have to sprint to set screens and seal really big and fight around. We didn't do a good job with the speed of the offense we were playing at. Layshia Clarendon, she did a great job. The ball was in her hands a little bit too much, but that's not necessarily her fault. We just had to get other people touches and we weren't getting open like we needed to."
"We don't have enough people that can put the ball on the floor and handle it. I think that's a big problem for us. We have Layshia and Eliza [Pierre]. But we need another guard or two that can rip and go, and with all this pressure, put the ball on the floor and make some things happen. It's a bit of a struggle for us."
On the atmosphere that the 5,106 in attendance produced:
"It's never a bad thing. It's great to have to travel and come down and play in a great environment with a crowd against a great team and Big 12 competition. It's always going to be beneficial to us."
On limiting Danielle Adams:
"She had to sit [early] with foul trouble. We really watched tons of film on her. Tons of film from last year's game on what we did well and what we didn't do well with her. We really tried to focus in on doing a better job of not allowing her touches. Partly that may be she didn't have a great game and mate part of that may be we made her have a little bit of a bad game. Her numbers were still good though."
