Head coach Lindsay Gottlieb
"I feel like this is a team that is really learning how to respond and win games and fight through adversity and that sounds like a cliché, but I really feel it. If you are on our bench and you are around us, you know that. We had some real defensive breakdowns in the second half and obviously we had horrific shooting slump to start the half, but I did feel that down the stretch we were able to get the ball inside like we needed to and made plays off of that. Obviously we are happy to get out of here with the win. I thought Arizona did a great job attacking and playing like they are hungry. We let them hang around and ultimately let them take the lead. We are just happy that we were able to do enough to fight back and get the win."
"I think the first thing is we really got on them to get the posts the ball. They had to shoot it, but we thought we were going to get some open looks if the posts could get some touches. So we went back to doing that. Obviously Arizona was really trying to pack it in and make us hit outside shots, but even if we could just get a touch inside and get it back out, we thought the basket would open up a little bit. And then we tried to have a little more urgency on defense and get up in them a little bit and obviously we did some pressing and we were able to get enough possessions. We knew that if we could score a couple of baskets and get a stop, we were right there and the pressure goes back on them. That's what happened."
On the team's success in the first half
"There were those two runs. There was a run to start the game. I thought we really got out in transition and we got the ball inside. Then they started collapsing on us a little bit and we didn't have the same looks. And it took us a minute to adjust, and then we did. And we built the lead back up again. I told them at the half, `let's go from here'. Unfortunately, when we started the second half, I didn't think our intensity was bad, but we really couldn't make a shot and that puts a lot of pressure on our defense. I credit them. Their guards are really, really good. They gave us problems. When you are not hitting shots and they have talented guards, that kind of run is unacceptable, but that is why it happened."
On the play of Talia Caldwell and Reshanda Gray
"It wasn't easy. Early on, they got some good looks. We know that we have an advantage inside over most teams. But later on when they were really collapsing inside, we said 'hey we still need to get the ball inside'. Those two really stepped up. Just very proud of that effort by those two."
