Mar. 8, 1997 Arizona Pounds Cal 87-64TUCSON, Ariz. -- Freshman point guard Lisa Griffith tied a career-high with 25 points in leading Arizona (22-7, 12-6 Pac-10) to an 87-64 Pacific-10 conference victory over California (6-21, 2-16) in front of 1,447 at McKale Center on Saturday. Arizona took control early by opening the game with a 20-5 run over the first ten minutes and California never got within single digits after that. "This is definitely a big way to end the season on a positive note," said Arizona head coach Joan Bonvicini. "Lisa (Griffith) is going to be a great player. She has moments like today when she can really lights it up." Griffith tied her season-high with seven treys and smashed the Pac-10 record for single-season three-pointers made. Breaking a record which was set by former Wildcat Brenda Pantoja in 1996, Griffith now has 85 treys for the year. Arizona has tied the school record for season victories (22) and has set a new mark for fewest regular season losses (7). California, which for the first time in school history failed to win a road game, closes its year with a 13-game losing skid, the longest in the history of the program.
