On day 14 of the Summer Olympic Games, Cal had two alums in action. Jason Kidd and the U.S. men's basketball team advanced to the gold-medal game and Grace Upshaw placed eighth in the final of the women's long jump.
Men's Basketball
Jason Kidd and Team USA advanced to the gold-medal game in the men's basketball tournament when the Americans defeated Argentina by the score of 101-81 In the semifinal contest, Kidd saw 16-plus minutes of action and was a starter. He tallied two points, seven assists and two rebounds. The United States will face Spain in the gold-medal game on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. PT (Sunday, 2:30 p.m. Beijing time). Kidd will be the final Cal Olympian competing in this year's Games.
Track and Field
Grace Upshaw placed eighth with a mark of 6.58 meters in the final of the women's long jump at National Stadium. Upshaw, a two-time Olympian, placed 10th at the 2004 Games in Athens. In the preliminary round, Upshaw notched a mark of 6.68 meters to advance to the final.
