The Bears in London (video) | Cal Olympic Photo Gallery | As the 2012 Summer Olympic Games closed Sunday, the 46 Golden Bear athletes, coaches and staff members representing Cal in London stood tall following another record-setting performance on the international stage.
The California contingent closed out the 30th Olympiad with a school record-tying 17th medal when Aleksa Saponjic won bronze on Sunday morning with the Serbian men's water polo team. Saponjic's bronze brings the Golden Bear total to 17 medals at the London Olympics, tying the school record set in 2008 in Beijing.
Former Cal track & field standout Alysia Montano was the lone Golden Bear who competed in the Olympics on Saturday. Montano competed in the final of the women's 800 meters and placed fifth.
In her final blog entry from the Olympic Games, Jenny Simon-O'Neill writes about her overall experience in London and the opportunity to meet with so many of Cal's accomplished athletes and coaches. Follow Jenny on Twitter @BearsInLondon.
