STANFORD, CA - Despite four goals by sophomore center Brian Kinsel and 15 saves from junior goalie Nate Bennett, the No. 4-ranked Cal men's water polo team (19-9) lost a 10-8 overtime heartbreaker to No. 3-ranked and defending national champion USC Friday in the MPSF Tournament at Stanford.

The Trojans' Cameron Kaiser scored two of his team-high four goals in overtime to lead USC to the 10-8 overtime victory over the Bears. Cal had owned a 7-6 advantage, but the Trojans scored with 60 seconds left in the match on a goal by Kaiser to send the contest into overtime. Kaiser then added two goals in the first overtime period and Trevor Clark chipped an insurance goal in the second overtime for the win.

Besides Kinsel's four goals, sophomores Brian Bacharach and Andrija Vasiljevic, and true freshmen Mike Hayes and Michael Sharf, also tallied goals for the Bears.

Cal will next face No. 7-ranked Pepperdine at 3:30 p.m. at Avery Aquatic Complex. The Waves had fallen to Stanford, 10-5, in other first round action.
