HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: At Monte Vista High School was a three-time High School All-American and four-time All-CIF selection in water polo...scored a school-record 156 single-season goals as a senior in 2006...was a member of the USA Youth National Team from 2003-07 and was the 2007 Junior Olympic MVP...majoring in ethnic studies...father, Carlos, was a three-time All-American water polo player at Cal, leading the Bears to the 1977 NCAA title and was the 1979 Pac-10 Player of the Year...has several other relatives who attend or attended Cal and competed in athletics, including uncle, Peter Schnugg, who was Cal's first water polo NCAA Player of the Year in 1973...cousin, Bryan Schnugg, is also a sophomore on the 2009 Cal men's water polo team...parents are Carlos and Peggy Steffens...born June 21, 1989, in San Francisco, Calif.
