Boyd Lachance Position: Associate Head Coach Season at California: 10th

Boyd Lachance, a major factor in the Golden Bears capturing the back-to-back 2006 and 2007 NCAA titles, has been the associate head coach for the Cal men's water polo since July 18, 2003 after playing a major role in the Bears winning the MPSF title and advancing to the NCAA title match in his first year as an assistant in 2002.

Lachance, 39, came to Cal after an outstanding water polo career at Pacific in the early `90s and seven years of coaching club, high school and community college water polo. As a two-year starter for the Tigers (1992-93), he was Pacific's second leading scorer in 1992 (35 goals in 20 matches), finishing his career with a scoring average of 1.09 goals per game. In addition, Lachance was a member of the only Tiger water polo team in school history to reach the NCAA tournament, achieving a No. 5 national ranking in 1993.

Transferring his skills from the pool to the pool deck, Lachance has coached in the national and international scene. Most recently he was an assistant coach for the United States squad at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzen, China, and along with senior attacker Cory Nasoff help Team USA to a fourth place finish.

Lachance was added to the USA Men's Senior National Team staff and coached the National B Team coach following the 2008 Beijing Olympics, working under national team coach Terry Schroeder. In 2002, he was an assistant coach with the National Cadet Team in Serbia, the head coach of two Pacific Zone Division II Premier League championship squads and the assistant coach for the Pacific Zone Division I Premier League national championship team. He was also co-head coach at Campolindo High School from 1999-2000 and an associate head coach at Diablo Valley College in 2001.

Lachance has been part of 12 USWP national championships (six 20-Under, four Premier League, two 18-Under) and two NCAA titles in his coaching tenure, while developing 79 USWP All-Americans, six high school All-Americans and three community college All-Americans along the way. Since joining the Cal program in 2002, he has helped coach 45 NCAA All-Americans.

In addition to his coaching duties at Cal, Lachance is the club director of Lamorinda Water Polo, which he founded in 1999. Since 2002, all members of the Bears' water polo program have gone through the Lamorinda club system.

Lachance received a degree in sociology from Pacific in 1994. He resides in East Sacramento with his wife, Gretchen, and son, Carson, six; son Nolan, five and son, Kellan, born June 23, 2009.
