The California men's tennis team will begin fall tournament play this weekend (Sept. 18-20) as hosts of the 2009 Land Rover Napa Valley Tennis Classic at the Meadowood Resort in St. Helena, Calif. The Golden Bears will welcome some of the top talent in collegiate men's tennis as Mississippi, Harvard and Michigan head west for the three-day singles and doubles round-robin challenge. RadioTennis.com will be providing live coverage via webcast at www.radiotennis.com

Play opens at 9 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 18) and Saturday (Sept. 19). On the final day (Sunday, Sept. 20) matches will take place from 9 a.m. through noon. Partnering with Land Rover and Nike, the three-day competition takes place at the famed Meadowood Resort, the tournament's major sponsor. The Napa Valley Tennis Classic was founded by head coach Peter Wright and Meadowood tennis director Doug King nine years ago. King was a standout player for Cal from 1973-76. Since 2000, the three-day event has showcased many of the nation's best teams and top players in collegiate men's tennis.

Last year, the Bears played host to Georgia, Harvard and Illinois. Cal captured 20 singles victories and five doubles wins over the course of the tournament.

Admission to the 2009 Land Rover Napa Valley Tennis Classic is complimentary. Please visit www.meadowood.com for more information or call (707) 963-3646 to make reservations at the resort.
