Andrews Edges Gilbert in Battle of the Bay Back-Draw Final

SAN FRANCISCO - California men's tennis sophomore Nick Andrews defeated junior teammate Zach Gilbert in the singles back-draw final of the 2009 Battle of the Bay Classic Sunday, Nov. 1, at the California Club. The second-year Golden Bear fought it out for a 7-5 win in the first set before being taken to a tiebreaker in the second set. The two stayed step-for-step with each other until Andrews sealed the victory with an 11-9 win in the breaker.

The Bears will now turn their attention to the Saint Mary's Invitational at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga, Calif. next weekend (Nov. 6-8).
