OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - No. 45-ranked California men's tennis senior Nick Andrewsearned a pair of key singles victories on the clay courts of the Olympia Fields Country Club on the second day of the 2011 Fighting Illini Invitational on Sat., Sept. 17. The Golden Bears came away with four victories at day's end and will conclude the first tournament of the year on Sun., Sept. 18.
Andrews opened up the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Greg Andrews of Notre Dame in the second round, but put an impressive victory in the books when he took out the Fighting Irish's 28th-ranked Casey Watt, 6-2, 6-1, in the third round.
Sophomore Ben McLachlanfell, in the second round, to Daniil Proskura of Kentucky, 6-3, 7-5, but came up with a three-set victory over Stephen Hoh of Illinois, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, in round three.
Junior Riki McLachlanwas dealt a 6-2, 6-4 loss by Notre Dame's Ryan Bandy, in the second round, but also came through with a three-set victory in round three as he took out Chris Camillone of Texas, 6-7, 7-6, 1-0.
No. 26-ranked junior Carlos Cuetofaced seventh-ranked Dennis Nevolo in the second round, but was taken out, 6-4, 6-0, and did not return to play in the third round.
