ATHENS, Ga. - California junior Pierre Mouillon earned a first-round victory in the NCAA Singles Tournament Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Mouillon, the lone Golden Bear competing from the Cal men's tennis team in the NCAA championships, defeated Danny Bryan from LSU, 6-3, 6-3.

"Pierre was awesome today," Cal head coach Peter Wright said. "He was in control right from the start. The courts at Georgia really strengthen his game. The way he hits the ball, the court slows the ball down, which really suits his game. Whoever he plays is going to have to play very well to beat him. Pierre has a lot of confidence and I like him against anybody right now."

In the first set, Mouillon jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Bryan came back to cut the deficit to one. The Bear ended the rally then and won the next two games to take the set. In the second set, Mouillon won four of the first five games to take a 4-1 lead. He would go on to win the set, 6-3, and take the match in the process.

Tomorrow in the second round, Mouillon will take on either Henrique Cancado from Old Dominion or Travis Helgeson from Georgia.
