THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Fourteenth-ranked California collected a pair of singles wins and a doubles victory in the Sherwood Collegiate Cup on Saturday at the Sherwood Country Club.

Cal produced a 2-2 record in the singles backdraw, with freshman Mads Engsted topping UCLA's Karue Sell, 6-1, 6-4, and freshman Wyatt Houghton beating UCLA's Alex Brigham, 6-3, 7-5. Sophomore Nikhil Jayashankar fell to Stanford's Trey Strobel, 7-6(6), 3-6. 10-7, and freshman Jack Sanford dropped a 6-1, 6-2, match to Stanford's Jamin Ball.

In the doubles main draw, the Bear team of Engsted/Houghton lost to USC's Eric Johnson/Emilio Gomez, 8-7(1), while Sanford/Jayashankar fell to Strobel/Nolan Paige, 8-1. Moving on to the doubles consolation draw quarterfinals, Sanford/Jayashankar defeated UCLA's Ryoto Tachi/Seth Solar, 8-4, to set up a Sunday semifinal against Stanford's Daniel Ho/Denis Lin at 10:30 a.m. Engsted and Houghton tried to make it two Cal teams in the semis but fell to Stanford's Matt Kandath/John Morrisey, 8-2, in the quarters.

The Sherwood Collegiate Cup continues on Sunday and concludes on Monday.
