OMAHA, Neb. - California alumnus Anthony Ervin booked a return trip to the Olympics by taking second place in the 50-freestyle final on Sunday night at the U.S. Olympic Trials at the CenturyLink Center. The 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the 50 freestyle, Ervin posted a time of 21.60 tonight to finish just one hundredth of a second behind winner Cullen Jones (21.59). Cal alum Nathan Adrian placed third in a time of 21.68 and out of 50-free Olympic contention. Cal senior Tom Shields missed out on an Olympic spot by finishing fourth in the 100-meter butterfly final with a time of 51.86. None of the Bears swimming in the 1500-free heats - sophomore Adam Hinshaw (14th, 15:32.11) and incoming freshmen Jameson Lyon (43rd, 15:49.25) and Sam Shimomura (86th, 16:23.66) - reached Monday's final, which is the last event of the eight-day Olympic Trials.
