OMAHA, Neb. - Former California stars Anthony Ervin and Nathan Adrian qualified for Sunday's final when they finished 1-2 in the 50-meter freestyle semifinals on Saturday night at the U.S. Olympic Trials at the CenturyLink Center. Ervin clocked a time of 21.74, while Adrian was close behind in 21.81. Adrian already qualified for the London-bound U.S. squad - in the 100-meter freestyle and 400-meter free relay - by winning the 100 free on Friday. Cal junior Shayne Fleming (10th in a time of 22.35 in the 50-free semi) and alumnus William Copeland (12th, 22.45) did not reach the final. In the 200-meter backstroke final, incoming freshman Jacob Pebley placed seventh (1:59.46) and alum David Russell was eighth (2:02.52). Tom Shields advanced to Sunday's 100-meter butterfly final. The Cal senior clocked a time of 51.89 in the semifinals to finish with the third-fastest time by just one hundredth of a second behind second-place Tyler McGill (51.88). On Sunday morning, the seventh day of the eight-day Olympic Trials, the meet continues with heats in the women's 50 free and men's 1500 free.
