COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -
The Cal men's divers closed out their season with a sixth and 11th-place finish in the final round of the platform competition at the Zone E Qualifying Meet Saturday night (March 16) in Colorado Springs. Freshman standout Collin Pollard scored 618.80 points in a tough 12-dive competition to finish in sixth place. Pollard stood in third place after the preliminaries with a score of 326.75, but ultimately fell out of NCAA consideration after the final round of competition. He was, however, named a second alternate for the 2013 NCAA meet. Pollard had earned his alternate spot after placing ninth on the three-meter board on Friday and seventh on the one-meter board on Thursday. Joining Pollard in the final round of the platform competition was Grayson Huston. A powerful performance in the preliminaries by the junior out of Carmel, Calif. earned Huston his first-ever final berth at the zonal meet, placing ninth after the preliminary round with a score of 288.20. Huston finished the night with 561.90 to place 11th, his highest finish at the meet. Sophomore Thomas Selby notched a score of 273.65 to place 13th after the preliminaries, just one spot out of final contention, and junior Tyler Pullen finished in 18th place with a score of 256.25.
