OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - California's men's diver Sam Helvie finished the first day of competition at the NCAA Zone E Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla., in sixth place on the one-meter springboard.

The sophomore tallied a high 327.45 in the preliminary round on Thursday morning, which put him in third going into the final dive. In the finals he notched an overall score of 621.35, which placed him sixth in the competition.

Helvie will compete in the three-meter springboard tomorrow afternoon. The meet is being held at the Oklahoma Community College and hosted by the US Air Force Academy.
