BERKELEY - California junior goalkeeper David Bingham earned a spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week, the soccer website announced on Monday, for his outstanding performance in the Golden Bears' 2-0 shutout of Brown in the NCAA Tournament's third round on Nov. 28 on Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium. Bingham made nine saves as Cal won and advanced to the quarterfinal round. Bingham, a San Francisco Bay Area native from Pleasanton, Calif., collected his eighth shutout of the season against Brown. He has produced a 0.67 goals-against average, .897 save percentage and 14-2-3 record after playing every minute in goal for Cal this year. Brown coach Patrick Laughlin lauded Bingham after the match: "I think their goalkeeper was excellent today, and he really made a big difference in the game. He came up with some outstanding saves in the second half, and as a team, when you see a team get behind a goalkeeper and clear one off the line off a player's body, you know that's a team determined to win." "They got some very good shots off, and David came up with some very good saves," Cal head coach Kevin Grimes. Sixth-seeded Cal plays at third-seeded Akron in the NCAA quarterfinal at 1 p.m. PT on Saturday, Dec. 4.
