Cal men's soccer continues its home stand with a pair of nonconference matches against Houston Baptist and San Francisco this week on Goldman Field/Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears (2-2-0) take on the Huskies (2-3-0) for the first time at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, and battle the Dons (2-1-1) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16. Cal has a 15-21-2 record in the all-time series with San Francisco.

No. 7 Cal Blanks USF, 1-0, in Opener
John Fitzpatrick scored No. 7 California's first goal of the season to lead the Golden Bears to a 1-0 nonconference victory over San Francisco on a cold Friday night in both teams' season opener at Negoesco Stadium. This also marked the first game of the Bay Area Classic for the Golden Bears (1-0-0) and Dons (0-1-0).

Salciccia Earns CSN Team of the Week Honor
Senior midfielder
Tony Salciccia scored a goal and collected an assist in Cal's 4-1 win over Central Florida on Sept. 7 to garner College Soccer News Team of the Week recognition. The co-captain scored in the 31st minute to give Cal a 1-0 lead over the Knights. In the 83rd minute, Salciccia slipped a through ball to set up
Kyle Marsh for the junior defender's first goal of the season and cap the scoring at 4-1.
Scouting Cal
• The Bears started their current seven-game home stand with the win over UCF
• Tony Salciccia leads Cal in points (5) and is tied for the team high in goals (2)
• Cal's co-captains are Salciccia, senior defender Ted Jones and senior defender Steve Birnbaum
• Junior midfielder Alec Sundly scored the gamewinning goal in the 65th minute against UCF; he is tied with Salciccia for the team's goal lead
• Sophomore midfielder Seth Casiple collected two assists vs. the Knights and leads the Bears with four assists on the season; in 2012 - when he was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year - he led Cal with six assists
• Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Peach, who made two saves against Central Florida, has compiled a 2.07 goals-against average in four starts
• Kevin Grimes is in his 13th season at the helm of the Cal program

• Sophomore midfielder Zach Pierce leads the Huskies in points (5) and is tied for the goals lead (2) with sophomore midfielder Christian Cruz and freshman midfielder Thilo Borgmann
• Junior forward Kristopher Tyrpak paces HBU in assists (2) and also has one goal
• Sophomore goalie Zach Harwerth has a 1.52 GAA in five games

• Cal will see a familiar face on the other team, as former Bear Michael Shaddock - who transferred across the bay - now plays for the Dons
• San Francisco lost to its only other Pac-12 opponent so far - Stanford - 1-0 in its Aug. 24 season opener
• Last week, San Francisco tied San Diego, 2-2, in double overtime on Sept. 6 at Negoesco Stadium and beat Sacramento State, 2-1, also at home on Sept. 9
• Sophomore forward Sixto Porras (2 goals, 2 points) and sophomore defender David Romney (2 goals, 2 points) share the team lead in goals and points
• Senior goalie Brendan Roslund has played every minute in goal for San Francisco and the 6-6 keeper has compiled a 0.95 GAA
• Erik Visser is in his 12th season as head coach of the Dons

Cal hosts the Cal-Stanford Tournament. The Bears play Duquesne at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 and Loyola Marymount on Sept. 23.
A Golden Olympics for the Golden Bears
A total of 46 Golden Bear athletes, coaches and staff members represented Cal during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and together, they brought home a school-record-tying 17 medals (11 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronze). The Bears have won 50 medals over the past three Olympics (16 in 2004, 17 in 2008, 17 in 2012), and they have captured 178 medals all-time (99 gold).
Cal No. 1 Public University in the Country
The University of California is the No. 1-ranked public university in the United States, according to U.S. News and World Report. The faculty has won 22 Nobel Prizes, including nine current members, while 28 alumni have received a Nobel Prize. A National Research Council analysis of U.S. universities concluded that the campus has the largest number of highly ranked graduate programs in the country (48 of 52). Cal also has a long commitment to public service, with more than 4,000 students annually doing volunteer work and more than 3,000 Peace Corps participants all-time.
