BERKELEY - California earned a No. 8 preseason ranking and Golden Bears forward Andrew Wiedeman claimed a first-team preseason All-America nod from College Soccer News. Cal is coming off a 12-4-5 record (5-2-3 Pac-10) in 2008. As a sophomore last year, Wiedeman led the Bears in points (29), goals (12) and game-winning goals (4) and also collected five assists to earn NSCAA third-team All-America, NSCAA Far West All-Region first-team and All-Pac-10 first-team honors.

Cal opens the 2009 season against Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Sept. 4 in Washington, D.C.
