Cal Earns 1-0 Victory over Brown, Wins Tournament
Providence, R.I.The California men's soccer team continued its winning ways by defeating Brown, 1-0, to capture the Brown-adidas Foot Locker Tournament, Sunday in Providence, R.I. Cal sophomore Justin Bell had the game-winning goal. Improving its record to 4-0-1, Cal held its opponent scoreless for the fourth time this season.
Bell scored his fourth goal of the season on an unassisted six-yard shot at 34:30 to give the Bears the 1-0 lead. Cal's defense held Brown to just 14 shots on goal due in part to the strong play of sophomores Derrick Dyslin, Doug Juday and Chris Sawicki. Sophomore Doug Brooks posted his fourth shutout of the season, while collecting two saves. He lowered his goals against average to an incredible 0.19.
Up next for the Bears will be the Portland Pilots on Sunday, September 21, in Portland, Ore. at 4 p.m.
