California Downs Chico State, 4-1
Senior forward Adam Hunter led the California men's soccer team with two goals and an assist as it downed Chico State Wednesday afternoon, 4-1, on Witter Field. The Bears improved their record to 8-3-1 overall.
Just 10 minutes into the first half, Hunter nailed a shot for the game's opening goal when senior midfielder Jason Young found him off a throw-in. Only four minutes later, Young delivered the ball to Hunter again for an easy left-footer for his second goal of the day. Sophomore forward John Macdonald got into the action, finding the back of the net with a short eight-yarder with two minutes left in the first half.
In the second half, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard when Cal goalkeeper Doug Brooks was caught out in the field. Freshman Matt Roberson knocked in the score at the 56-minute mark. But freshman forward Kendall Simmonds scored off a Hunter assist to give the Bears the final 4-1 victory.
Up next, the Bears will travel to Stanford to meet the sixth-ranked Cardinal Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
