California Defeats Oregon State, 3-1
CORVALIS, Ore. - Three different Golden Bears scored for the California men's soccer team as it improved to
7-2-1 overall, 2-0 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with its win over Oregon State,
3-1. Offensively, the Bears completely dominated the game, outshooting the Beavers 23-4.
Cal was held scoreless for the first 32 minutes of play, but back-to-back goals by junior Matt
Newmark and freshman Kendall Simmonds put the Bears up, 2-0. Senior Joshua Dodson picked up a
goal for Oregon State to close the gap, 2-1, but that would be the only Beaver goal of the
game.
In the second half, sophomore Justin Bell continued his offensive prowess, picking up his sixth
goal of the season at the 51-minute mark. Noteworthy defense was played by sophomores Derrick
Dyslin and Chris Sawicki.
Up next, the Bears will travel to Seattle, Wash. to take on No. 10 Washington Sunday, Oct. 12
at noon.
