Box Score

The California men's soccer team claimed the championship trophy of the Nike Invitational with a 2-0 victory over Tulsa Sunday afternoon at Harry Maloney Field. The Golden Bears improve their winning streak to five in a row, a 6-2-1 overall record, as Tulsa drops to 6-3-0 for the year.

The Golden Bears were awarded the crown by winning both their games, a 2-1 decision over Santa Clara last Thursday, and the 2-0 decision over Tulsa on Sunday. This is the second time this year that Cal has won the same tournament that No. 1 Stanford has also competed in. The first was the adidas Cal Legacy Classic as Cal defeated both St. Mary's (4-0) and Denver (1-0).

After a scoreless first half, Cal got on the scoreboard at 48:14 when midfielder Garrett Terracciano headed the ball past Golden Hurricane goalkeeper Brent Salter. The goal was setup by an assist from senior Pat Fisher. Cal then iced the game at 88:14 when sophomore Mike Munoz took a pass from forward Calen Carr and drifted a shot past the Tulsa goalkeeper.

This is the fourth shutout that Bear keeper Josh Saunders has recorded for the season. Saunders collected two saves in the victory to Salter's four.

Sunday (Oct. 6), Cal travels to Spartan Stadium to face San Jose State at 7 p.m. to try and notch its sixth win in a row. The most consecutive wins in Cal history is eight, accomplished in 1986.
