LOS ANGELES -

Box Score

Sophomore Servando Carrasco found the back of the net in the 87th minute to give No. 13 California a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Maryland Sunday afternoon at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA. With the win, the Golden Bears improved to 2-0 on the young season, while the Terrapins fell to 1-1.

Cal had only posted three shots in the first half, but recorded nine in the second half and forced Maryland keeper Zac Macmath to make five saves in the second half before the Bears got one past him for the game winner.

Carrasco's goal is the first of the season for him and fellow sophomore Andrew Wiedeman picked up the assist. After scoring two goals against UC Riverside on Friday, Wiedeman has recorded five points this year.

Junior keeper Stefan Frei made five saves and tallied his first shutout of the campaign. The shutout was also the 12th in Frei's collegiate career.

Cal returns to Edwards Stadium next weekend for the Cal Legacy Classic, as it will face Cornell Friday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m.
