Men's Gymnastics Inks Three New Bears

Nov. 18, 2008

BERKELEY - The California men's gymnastics team signed three recruits to national letters of intent, head coach Barry Weiner announced Monday. Donothan Bailey, Jeffrey Langenstein and Steven Lacome will join the Golden Bears in fall of 2009.

"We're excited about this class because we feel it can move up in the ranks and help us get closer to our goal of winning the NCAA Championships," Weiner said. "I think it's a well-rounded class. Between all three of them, we've gotten help on every event."

Donathan Bailey is a current member of the U.S. Junior National Team. He is a three-time national champion on pommel horse and Weiner notes that he boasts great potential on all events. He was runner-up to current Cal freshman Glen Ishino at the 2007 championships of the U.S. junior division.

Jeffrey Langenstein will join the Bears as a solid all-around competitor and his best event is floor exercises, where he dismounts with a double layout. Langenstein finished 14th in the all-round at the junior nationals. He spent time under former Golden Bear Ron Bell.

Steven Lacombe can do a double front on vault and his great strength on rings will make him a fierce collegiate competitor. Weiner calls Lacombe diamond who simply needs time to learn and polish.
