Freshman Glen Ishino Selected to Pan American Championships

Oct. 27, 2008

BERKELEY - California freshman men's gymnast Glen Ishino was named to the U.S. roster for the Pan American Gymnastics Union Individual Event Championships, USA Gymnastics recently announced. Ishino will travel to Rosario, Argentina for the event, which takes place Nov. 19-23.

"We're thrilled to have Glen go and represent the United State and Cal," California head coach Barry Weiner said. "It definitely bodes well for our program. We think he's going to have a great result."

Ishino, who signed a national letter of intent with Cal last fall, finished second at the 2007 Junior Olympic Nationals in the all-around competition and took fifth on floor exercise. At the 2007 U.S. championships, he earned a position on the U.S. Junior National team after taking second in the all-around and finishing first on rings.

He also represented America at the 2007 Junior Pan American Games in Guatemala. Ishino, a native of Santa Ana, Calif., trained at SCATS Gymnastics in Huntington Beach, Calif., and was coached by Grigor Chalikyan and Albert Avchian.
