GUADALAJARA, Mexico - California gymnast Glen Ishino is now the proud owner of another gold medal after winning pommel horse at the 2010 Pan-American Championships. Ishino qualified for the individual event finals, the first of which were held Sept. 4, after doing well in the team finals, in which the Americans won gold as a team. Ishino captured the pommel horse title with his routine that earned a 15.175, well ahead of his international competition. Colombia's Jorge Peña Castiblanco was second at 14.775, and Canada's Casey Sandy was third at 14.650. Fellow current Golden Bear, Bryan del Castillo, also earned the right to advance to the individual event finals. On pommel horse, Del Castillo finished sixth with 13.375. Ishino captured the men's all-around silver medal. Both Ishino and Del Castillo were named to the U.S. delegation to the Pan-Am games after their performances at the VISA Championships, held in August. Additionally for their scores at the VISA Championships, both were named to the U.S. senior national team. At that meet, Ishino stood alone in fifth place in the all-around while Del Castillo rounded out the Cal men's gymnastics representation in seventh place at the annual national championships. The Pan American Championships, held every two years, includes teams from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
