Golden Bears at Stanford for Big Flip

Feb. 16, 2013

BERKELEY -

For the third time this season, the No. 10 California men's gymnastics team will meet Bay Area rival No. 4 Stanford, this time for a meet starting at 6 p.m. Sunday in Maples Pavilion. It will be the first men's gymnastics meet televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.

The squad is coming off a short break from last week's Winter Cup Challenge, where freshman Kevin Wolting and senior Steven Lacombe, along with former Cal gymnast Glen Ishino, vied for a spot on the U.S. National Team in individual performances. Ishino was one of 15 who earned a spot.

Previous to the Winter Cup Challenge, the team dropped a 439.350-413.400 decision to the University of Michigan Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich. As a team, the Bears notched a season-best 69.950 on the parallel bars, and saw strong individual performances on the vault apparatus from junior Matthew del Junco(14.950) and senior Christian Monteclaro (14.900), who placed second and third respectively. Freshman Ryan Patterson registered a 14.000 on the horizontal bar to claim second place.

The Golden Bears are now 4-1 on the season.
