April 3, 2010 Complete Results in PDF Format NORMAN, Okla. - Eighth-ranked California came close to winning the MPSF Men's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, instead taking second place behind host and second-ranked Oklahoma by one tenth of a point at McCasland Field House. The Golden Bears posted a team score of 354.450 to the Sooners' 354.550. Top-ranked Stanford finished third (347.150). Glen Ishino won the all-around with a 90.100, well ahead of second-place finisher Steven Legendre of Oklahoma, who scored 87.300. Ishino also won pommel horse, notching a 15.150. Kyle Bunthuwong won two events as well. He was first on parallel bars with a 15.100, which was .400 in front of Ishino's second-place finish of 14.700. It was another Bunthuwong-Ishino one-two punch on high bar with Bunthuwong taking home the event title with his 14.950. Ishino was second at 14.800. On floor, Bears took third place. Cal's highest finisher on the event were Kyle Bunthuwong and Glen Ishino, who both tallied a 15.150. Dennis Mannhart was the next closest competitor with a 14.650. Cal blasted the competition on pommel horse, winning the event with a 57.600. Glen Ishino won the event and paced the Bears with a 15.150 while Bryan del Castillo scored a 14.400. Mannhart was close behind with a 14.200. The Bears took second rings with a 58.350 to Stanford's first-place 59.950. Kyle Bunthuwong was first amongst Cal with a 14.750. Freshman Steven Lacombe was nipping his heels with a 14.600. Mannhart was third of the Bears at 14.550 while Ishino rounded out the top four for the Bears at 14.450. Each of the Bears scored above a 15.100 on vault with the top four scores coming in all above 15.500. Ishino again led Cal, this time with a 15.850. Christian Monteclaro was next in line with a 15.750. Eric Haeussler earned a 15.600. Bunthuwong paced the Bears on high bar thanks to his event-winning 14.950. Ishino was next with a 14.800 and del Castillo was next with his 14.500. Cal will be off from meets until Thursday, April 15, when the NCAA Championships begin at West Point. The team qualifier occurs April 15, and if the Bears place as one of the top three teams in that six-team meet, they advance to the team finals. The team championships, which are on Friday, April 16, will feature the top six teams in the country - three from each qualifying session. Finally, the individuals, if they score high enough during the team qualifiers, will get a chance to compete in the individual championships on Saturday, April 17.
