STANFORD, Calif. - California claimed the 1998 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Gymnatsics Championships tonight at Maples Pavilion, totaling 229.050 - 1.2 higher than second place finisher and defending champion Nebraska. California rose to first place this year with a total of 229.050 points, improving on its third place performance in the championships last year. Top finishers for California were Oleg Kosyak, who finished second all-around, and Yefgenni Zherebechevskyi, who tied for first in the rings with Oklahoma's Dan Fink.
The 1998 MPSF Championships will conclude tomorrow night with the individual competition. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Members of the Stanford team which qualified for tomorrow night's competition are Clarence Miao on the vault and in the floor exercise, and Jason Katsampes on the parallel bars, the high bar, and the pommel horse.
