Golden Bears Place Third at MPSF Championship

LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of California men's gymnastics team ended up third with a total score of 229.8 in the nine-team competition at the MPSF Championship.

Nebraska was first with 230.7, while Oklahoma came in second at 230.1.

Oleg Kosyak and Trent Wells finished second and third, respectively, in the floor exercise, while Kosyak ended fourth in the still rings.

Cal also grabbed a third in the still rings and in the pommel horse competitions.

However, Kosyak's top performance came in the vault, where he won with a 9.775.

The Bears' Andy Mason and David Kruse ended sixth and seventh, respectively, in the parallel bars, while Trent Wells and Kosyak were Nos. 3 and 4 in the horizontal bar.

Oklahoma's Jeremy Killen was named most outstanding athlete and Nebraska's Francis Allen was named coach of the year.
