SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Current Cal golfer Michael Weaver fell Thursday in the round of 16 at the 101st California Amateur Championship. Weaver was defeated, 4 & 3, by Matt Hansen. Weaver was the final of five Golden Bears still playing in the tournament.

Max Homa and Pace Johnson reached Wednesday's round of 32 but were both defeated in extra holes. Homa fell in 22 holes to Joshua Baskins, while Johnson lost in 20 holes to Ben Geyer.

All three had qualified for match play by finishing in the top 32 of stroke play action contested Monday and Tuesday.

Homa was fourth during stroke play at seven-under par with rounds of six-under par 65 and one-under par 70 for a 36-hole total of 135. Weaver tied for eighth in stroke play with a four-under par 138 on rounds of even-par 71 and four-under 67, while Johnson was tied for 17th with rounds of three-over par 74 and five-under par 66 to give him a two-under 140 total.

 

 

Current Cal player Shotaro Ban (77-69 - 146, +4) and incoming freshman Walker Huddy (77-75 - 152, +10) also participated in stroke play but did not qualify for match play.
