SACRAMENTO - Current Cal golfer Michael Weaver and former Golden Bear Charlie Wi fell shy of qualifying for the 2010 U.S. Open Championship field during sectional qualifying action at the par-71, 7,121-yard Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento on Monday.

Weaver finished with a 36-hole, two-under par total of 140 to tie for 17th place, shooting a two-under round of 69 on his first 18 holes and an even-par 71 on his second 18.

Wi was one shot behind Weaver and tied for 24th place with a one-under score of 141. He matched Weaver's two-under 69 on the first 18 holes and then shot a one-over 72 on his second 18.

Former Cal golfer Charlie Wi fell shy of qualifying for the 2010 U.S. Open during sectional qualifying on Monday.

The top four finishers from the 87-player field of the sectional qualifying event qualified for the 156-player field at the U.S. Open to be played June 17-20 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links. Erick Justesen was the winner of the Sacramento event on Monday that was one of 13 sectionals nationally conducted by the United States Golf Association. Justesen finished with a nine-under par score of 133, with rounds of 65 and 68.

Justesen will be joined at the 2010 U.S. Open by Joseph Bramlett (65-71 - 136, -6), Kenny Kim (69-67 - 136, -6) and Andrew Putnam (72-65 - 137, -5). Putman picked up the fourth and final qualifying spot with a two-hole playoff victory over John Ellis (70-67 - 137, -5), Dillon Dougherty (72-65 - 137, -5) and Bhavik Patel (69-68 - 137, -5). Ellis will be the first alternate, while Dougherty is the second alternate.

The Cal pair were attempting to join Byeong-Hun Ben An in the 2010 U.S. Open field. An has a signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Cal men's golf team in 2010-11. He qualified for the 2010 U.S. Open when he became the youngest player to ever win the U.S. Amateur at the age of 17 last August. Last April, he played at The Masters.
