WALNUT CREEK - Stephen Hale was a second-team selection when Commissioner Larry Scott announced the 2010 Men's Golf All-Academic team for the conference on Thursday. An Interdisciplinary Studies major with a 3.43 cumulative GPA, Hale received Pac-10 All-Academic recognition for the first time in his career. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or a significant contributor.

On the course, Hale had Cal's third-lowest stroke average during a 2009-10 season that ended at the NCAA Championships on Thursday. He won his second collegiate tournament with a victory at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal last October, breaking the Kingsley Club course record with a 64 in the second round of the rain-shortened 36-hole event. Hale had two other top-10 finishes in 2009-10, tying for second at the Spartan Classic and tying for ninth at the John A. Burns Invitational.

As a freshman in 2007-08, Hale was a second-team All-Pac-10 choice with a team-low 72.5 stroke average and won the John A. Burns Invitational. He also had top-10 finishes by tying for eighth at the Husky Invitational and tying for 10th at the Western Intercollegiate.
