BERKELEY - Michael Kim has moved into the No. 1 spot in the most recent Golfstat rankings, making him the nation's No. 1 collegiate player in both the Golfstat and Golfweek rankings. Cal is also the No. 1 team in all three national polls (Golfstat, Golfweek, GolfWorld/Nike Golf). Cal has five of the top 33 players in the Golfweek individual rankings with Kim being joined by Joël Stalter (No. 2), Michael Weaver (No. 21), Brandon Hagy (No. 32) and Max Homa (No. 33). In the Golfstat poll, Stalter (No. 3), Weaver (No. 25), Homa (No. 34) and Hagy (No. 39) join Kim in the top 40. Kim captured a share of the individual title at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in his most recent event March 8-10 to lead Cal to its eighth team victory in nine tournaments in 2012-13. Kim's win was his school-record fourth individual title of the campaign with all four coming in his last five tournaments. He has finished in the top 10 in each of his nine events this season and leads Cal with a 69.93 stroke average. Kim's four individual wins lead the team, while Stalter has two and Hagy one as the Golden Bears have combined for seven individual medalist honors in their last six tournaments with at least one in all six. Hagy started the stretch by winning the Alister MacKenzie Invitational and was followed by Kim capturing the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational to end the fall season. Kim and Stalter were then co-medalists at the Arizona Intercollegiate to open the spring before Stalter captured the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Kim won the Fresno State Lexus Classic and Kim shared the title with three others at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. In addition to Kim's nine top-10 finishes, Homa, Stalter and Weaver have been in the top 10 five times each, while Hagy has finished there on four occasions to give Cal players 28 top-10 finishes on the season. Kim leads Cal with 69.93 stroke average that ranks third nationally. Stalter (70.33), Hagy (71.26), Homa (71.40) and Weaver (71.56) are all under 72.0. Kim is one of three Cal players to be ranked No. 1 nationally this season along with Stalter and Homa. Stalter was No. 1 according to Golfstat in both February and March of 2013, while Homa was the top player according to both Golfstat and Golfweek during September and October of 2012. Cal will be out action until resuming its season April 5-7 at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational. The Bears have won 14 of their last 23 tournaments overall dating back to the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign and have finished in the top five in all 23.
