BERKELEY - Four Cal players are listed on the first Palmer Cup Ranking of 2013 announced Thursday. Michael Kim is the No. 1 ranked player for the United States, while Joël Stalter (France) is No. 4 on the European side. Michael Weaver (No. 11) and Max Homa (No. 25) are also listed for the United States.
The Palmer Cup Ranking, which is in its first season of existence, will be updated March 6, March 20, April 3 and April 17. The top six players in the April 17 ranking from both the United States and Europe will be automatically selected for the 2013 Palmer Cup, which will be held June 7-9 at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Del. The balance of both teams will be named the following week.
Using Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a negative bonus for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.
Kim checks in with a .9992 percentage, while Stalter is at .9785, Weaver at .9810 and Homa at .9611.
The Palmer Cup pits teams of 10 collegiate players from the United States and Europe against each other in a match-play format. For more information on the event named after golfing legend Arnold Palmer visit palmercup.org.
