BERKELEY - The Cal men's golf team and Joël Stalter swept Golfweek's collegiate Team of the Week and Player of the Week honors Monday. Stalter led Cal to a milestone win at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate hosted by Hawai'i on the Arnold Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort last Wednesday-Friday by running away with an eight-stroke victory.

The victory was the team's sixth in seven outings in 2012-13 to tie a school record, its third in a row at the event and the 50th career win for head coach Steve Desimone.

The win was Stalter's second in as many events this spring and his fourth top-10 showing in five tournaments this season. Stalter moved past the nation's No. 1 player and teammate Michael Kim to now lead the team with a 69.9 scoring average on the season.

"It's a great honor for both team and Joël," Desimone said. "He played great in really tough conditions. Anytime you win by eight strokes you're doing a lot of really good things. Obviously, the team played well with a 27-shot victory over the fourth-ranked team in the country and a lot of other really good teams."

Cal next returns to action March 4-5 at the Fresno State Lexus Classic to be played at the Belmont Country Club in Fresno. The Bears will enter the event having won 12 of their last 21 tournaments overall dating back to the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign and finishing in the top five in all 21.
