BERKELEY - Cal men's golfers Michael Kim and Joël Stalter were both named to the first 2013 Haskins Award watch list for the honor given annually to the top player in men's collegiate golf. Kim moved up to the top spot after finishing the fall at No. 2, while Stalter makes his debut. The duo shared individual medalist honors at Cal's most recent outing in the first tournament of the 2013 spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate. Kim has had a banner season that has included being named the Pac-12 Men's Golfer of the Month for October for the first time in his career and winning his first two collegiate tournaments at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational and Arizona Intercollegiate. He has a team-best 69.72 stroke average that is also fourth nationally and has posted top-10 finishes in all six of his events. He is also the nation's top-ranked college player according to both Golfweek and Golfstat.
In addition to sharing individual medalist honors at the Arizona Intercollegiate with Kim, Stalter has a 70.42 stroke average that is second on the club to Kim. After not playing in the season's first two events, he has finished in the top eight spots in three of the four events he has participated in. Stalter is ranked ninth nationally by Golfweek, while checking in at No. 12 according to Golfstat. Cal will next play February 20-22 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate hosted by Hawai'i on the Arnold Palmer Course at the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu in Kahuku. The Bears are the two-time defending champion of the event.
