STANFORD - California dug in to play better team golf Saturday at Stanford University Golf Course, sitting in a tie for 7th after 2 rounds at 1-under. George Gandranata is Cal's top golfer after 2 rounds with his 2-under 138, including a 2008-09 personal best 67 in the second round, tying him for 16th. Washington leads the tournament after 2 rounds at -23, led by a 10-under day by top individual Tze Huang Choo. Michael Jensen sank 6 birdies against 3 bogyes for a team-best 67 (-3) in round 1, his best score of the year, with a 71 in round 2 to put him one stroke behind Gandranata in a tie for 22nd. John Murphy shot a 1-under 69 with 4 birdies in the opening round. His second round included 2 double bogeys that scuttled 3 birdies for a 3-over score and a +2 finish on the day, good for a tie for 44th. Gandranata and Stephen Hale were both 1-over with 3 birdies against 4 bogeys in round 1. Gandranata had two eagles and a birdie during his 3-under second round, while Hale's 14th-hole bogey pushed his second round to 1-over again for a plus-2 day and a tie with Murphy in 44th. Eric Mina fired a 4-over 74 followed by 1-over 71, good for a tie for 59th. Jeff Hamm, playing as an individual, had 3 birdies in his first round but suffered 2 double bogeys in each round and ended the day at +14, putting him in a tie for 86th.
