George Gandranata is in his first season as a volunteer undergraduate assistant at Cal in 2009-10 after a four-year playing career for the Golden Bears. Gandranata was a consistent force as a player at Cal, recording at least one Top 10 showing in each of his four seasons from 2005-09. He recorded his highest collegiate finish at the 2008 Pac-10 Championship hosted by Cal when he tied for third. Gandranata was named honorable mention All-Pac-10 the same season, recording four of his seven career Top 10 finishes.

Gandranata continued his fine play recently by winning the prestigious 2009 NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship and the San Mateo County Amateur (67-65-65 - 199). Off the course, Gandranata was selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America as an All-America Scholar for his work in Economics and also awarded the Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship Award as he pursues graduate school at Cal in Economics.
