Mar. 4, 1997 Cal Finishes Ninth at Aldila ClassicSANTEE, Calif. - USC's Chad Wright defeated Arizona's Rory Sabbatini in a playoff to capture the individual title and lead the Trojans to the team championship of the Aldila Collegiate Classic at the Carlton Oaks Country Club. USC captured the team title with an 8-over-par 872. Arizona and Pepperdine finished in a tie for second place eight strokes behind, while Cal was ninth with a 29-over-par 893. The individual playoff was necessary after both Wright and Sabbatini finished the tournament at 3-under-par 213. Jay Berkowitz, who finished in a six-way tie for 10th, led the Golden Bears with a 3-over-par 219.
