8:57 a.m.
It's been a busy and happy 37 minutes since we last blogged. At 8:15 a.m., the fax churned out the NLI of linebacker Chris McCain and then a cheer eruped and the football office celebrated when an NLI from highly-regarded five-star All-American wide receiver/safety Keenan Allen came through the fax machine at 8:22 a.m. Two minutes later at 8:24 a.m., Buffalo transfer Zach Maynard, the half-brother of Allen, faxed in his acceptance of a scholarship offer. Then came cornerback Adrian Lee (8:33 a.m.), wide receiver Terrance Montgomery (8:39 a.m.). Defensive end Gabe King, rated as high as the No. 5 defensive end nationally by Rivals and the No. 30 player on the Rivals250 list, faxed in his NLI at 8:48 a.m.
8:15 a.m.
Another five NLI's are in and four of them are prep All-Americans with the signings of offensive lineman Alex Crosthwaite, wide receiver Kaelin Clay, quarterback Austin Hinder and linebacker Cecil Whiteside. Crosthwaite came in at 7:44 a.m. and was followed by Geoffrey Gibson at 7:49 a.m. Clay (7:52 a.m.), Hinder (7:53 a.m.) and Whiteside (8:01 a.m.) followed.
7:42 a.m.
A flurry of activity on the fax in the 7 o'clock hour ... four NLI's received in a 10-minute span. Linebacker David Wilkerson (7:12 a.m.), tight end Jacob Wark (7:14 a.m.), and wide receivers Coleman Edmond (7:18 a.m.) and Tevin Carter (7:22 a.m.) are now Bears. If you're counting that's eight NLI's so far. Stay logged on to CalBears.com/SigningDay presented by ZipRealty all day long for more coverage.
6:57 a.m.
Five-star linebacker All-American linebacker Chris Martin faxed in his NLI from Colorado at 6:07 a.m. PT. Scout calls Martin "a high motor, high character athlete" and says Martin is "the best recruit to commit to a Pac-10 school in the class of 2010."
5:54 a.m.
Offensive lineman Chris Adcock is a Golden Bear as of 5:32 a.m. PT. The four-star recruit from Mesquite, Texas, prepped at Dallas Christian School and ranks as ESPN's No. 9 offensive guard and Scout's No. 18 center.
5:32 a.m.
The early birds are in. The first two National Letters of Intent have come across the fax machine. Defensive back Michael Coley was the first fax that came through the machine at 4:04 a.m. PT. The state of Maryland kept it coming six minutes later with the arrival of an NLI from linebacker Nick Forbes. Coley is "an exceptional athlete with a great combination of quickness, speed, football skills and intellegence," according to ESPN. Forbes is the first All-American in this year's recruiting class and is No. 2 on Rivals' list of the nation's top inside linebackers.
