BERKELEY - New Cal head football coach Sonny Dykes was cheered enthusiastically when he spoke briefly to the crowd during a first half media time out at the Golden Bears' men's basketball game against No. 18 UNLV on Sunday. "I really enjoyed meeting so many of our fans today and the reception my family and I received when we were introduced," Dykes said. "There is a tremendous enthusiasm and spirit at Cal that you can just feel. I'm excited to be a part of it." Dykes spent about an hour prior to the contest mingling with fans and then took in the first half of the game with his family from courtside seats. After doing a couple of halftime interviews with the Cal men's basketball radio team and ESPNU, he headed back to work at Memorial Stadium. Dykes will make his first appearance Monday on the Cal Coaches Corner radio show. Fans are encouraged to attend the one-hour program broadcast live from the Paragon Restaurant at the Claremont Hotel Club & Spa located at 41 Tunnel Road in Berkeley from 6-7 p.m. PT. Cal men's and women's head basketball coaches Mike Montgomery and Lindsay Gottlieb will be among the guests joining Dykes on the show hosted by Todd McKim each Monday from August through March. The show, which includes interviews and features with Golden Bear coaches, student-athletes and alumni from all 29 intercollegiate sports, can be heard over the air waves on NewsTalk 910 AM and online at CalBears.com. The Dykes era at Cal will begin with three consecutive home games at the recently renovated Memorial Stadium when the Bears open their 2013 season against Northwestern (August 31), Portland State (September 7) and Ohio State (September 14). Cal will have a total of seven home games on its 2013 docket, also playing Pac-12 opponents Arizona, Oregon State, USC and Washington State at Memorial Stadium. The Pac-12 is expected to announce dates for all conference games in early January. All television broadcast information and kickoff times will also be announced at later dates. Cal football season-ticket renewals will take place during a new time frame for the upcoming 2013 season. Current season-ticket holders will have a six-week window from Dec. 17 - Jan. 31 to renew before season tickets go on sale to the general public. Current season-ticket holders will receive complete renewal, pricing, benefits and seat upgrade event information during the coming weeks. Fans who wish to become new season-ticket holders for 2013 are encouraged to place a $100 per-seat deposit now to guarantee a seat selection time at the upgrade event in early winter.
