BERKELEY - Shane Vereen, making his fifth career start and second this season, had 30 rushing attempts for 159 yards, both career highs, as the Bears defeated Arizona, 24-16, last Saturday, making the sophomore tailback the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week. It was Vereen's third career 100-yard game and it included a season-long 61-yard touchdown run for the game's final score with 1:21 remaining in the contest. With teammate Jahvid Best's return uncertain, Vereen is the starting tailback on the depth chart and currently sits sixth in the Pac-10 in kick return average (23.0 ypr) and seventh in all-purpose running (129.5 ypg), while leading the team in both categories (1295 all-purpose running yards - 545 rushing, 189 receiving, 10 punt return, 551 kick return).
