BERKELEY - Brendan Bigelow was named the All-Purpose Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards and was also an honorable mention CFPA Running Back Performer of the Week for his performance Saturday in Cal's 35-28 loss at No. 12 Ohio State. Bigelow rushed four times for 160 yards, including two long touchdown runs of 81 and 59 yards. Bigelow added three kick returns for 74 yards and totaled a career-high 234 all-purpose yards on seven touches.
Bigelow's 81-yard touchdown run was the longest of his career, the longest by any opposing player at Ohio Stadium ever, the longest in the Pac-12 this season, and the longest by a Cal player since Best had a 93-yard TD run at UCLA in 2009. His 234 all-purpose yards were the most by a Cal player since Jahvid Best had 311 all-purpose yards (all rushing) against Washington in 2009.
Bigelow leads the Pac-12 in 2012 for both the most rushing and total offense yards per play in a single game with his average of 40.0 in both categories against Ohio State. He also ranks second in the conference overall in kick returns, averaging 26.7 yards per return on six tries for a total of 160 yards. He is also eighth in the conference with an average of 111.7 all-purpose yards per contest.
Bigelow is second on the Cal team in rushing with 175 yards on six carries for an average of 29.2 yards per rush as well as all-purpose yards with 335 total (175 rush, 160 kick return).
