CHICAGO - Cal junior Keenan Allen's 39-yard touchdown run on a reserve is one of four plays during the first week of the season that has been nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, Intersport announced on Tuesday. Voting opens Tuesday and fans can vote once a day for Allen's play through Sunday, Sept. 16 at facebook.com/BestOfCollegeFootball.

On the play with the Bears' trailing Nevada, 21-7, just over midway through the third quarter, Allen lined up on the right side of the field and took off toward the backfield when the ball was snapped. Allen caught a pitch from tailback Isi Sofele and turned up field. After a couple picture-perfect blocks cleared a path, Allen shook his way through a couple defenders and turned on the jets toward the end zone.

Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college football plays will be nominated as the Play of the Year on the GEICO Best of College Football Facebook page (facebook.com/bestofcollegefootball). The eight weekly winners will then faceoff in a week of finals voting from November 4 through 11 to determine the 2012 GEICO Play of the Year. The winner will be announced on GEICO Best of College Football on CBS Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET.

In addition to recognizing the season's top plays, the one-hour CBS special will relive the season's greatest moments, players and traditions. The show also marks the culmination of the GEICO "Best of 2012" Football Tour, an interactive fan experience that visits 30 marquee games throughout the football season.

Allen's reverse touchdown run is competing against three other plays from week one, including a long, spinning run from Clemson's Andre Ellington, a one-handed snag from Ohio State's Devin Smith and a defender-hurtling run from Michigan State's Le'Veon Bell.

For questions about the Facebook competition or the CBS show, contact Nick Owen at nowen@intersportnet.com or 312-467-2826.
