Golden Bears Hold Last Double-Day Session on Monday

Aug. 20, 2007

Berkeley -

The California football team held its last double-day session on Monday, practicing in shells in the morning drills and helmets in the afternoon tutorials.

After working on their customary training such as protection drills, one-on-ones and ball handling sessions, the Golden Bears went into an 11-on-11 routine for 12 plays. Quarterback Nate Longshore found DeSean Jackson on a pair of routes, while also utilizing Lavelle Hawkins and Robert Jordan. Cal continued to receive solid freshman production, including a good yardage run by Shane Vereen, who shuffled around the defenders on a few occasions.

The Bears also focused special teams punt coverage techniques and blocking schemes in the middle portion of the morning drills.

The afternoon session primarily focused on gaining valuable repetition, on both offense and defense, through various formations, routes and coverage packages.

Cal resumes practice tomorrow with its second scheduled scrimmage. As a reminder, ALL PRACTICES are CLOSED to the public.

The Bears open the 2007 season on Saturday, Sept. 1, hosting Tennessee at Memorial Stadium in a 5 p.m. contest. Single-game tickets are available for all games except Tennessee, USC and Stanford. Season tickets are currently available by visiting www.CalBears.com or by calling 1-800-GO-BEARS.
